Chad Johnson Charged With Misdemeanor Battery

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson has been charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly headbutting his wife Evelyn Lozada during an argument last month.

Johnson was initially arrested on August 11 after the fight with Lozada. The alleged fight started after Lozada found a condom receipt in a car. Lozada said during the argument, Johnson headbutted her.

The Dolphins quickly cut ties with Johnson within 48 hours of his arrest. The scene played out on television during the HBO show, "Hard Knocks."

Lozada has since filed for divorce from Johnson. According to TMZ.com, Johnson has refused to sign any divorce papers saying he's still in love with Lozada.

Johnson is technically an NFL free agent, but after flaming out with the Dolphins and struggling with the New England Patriots, his professional football career may be over.

If Johnson is convicted of the charge, he faces up to a year in jail.

Johnson will be arraigned in Broward County on Thursday.
