MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Not that there was any doubt, but the AP confirmed Tuesday that the number one team in the country is the Alabama Crimson Tide after the first week of the college football season.

Alabama overtook USC who was ranked number one last week.

The Crimson Tide annihilated the eighth-ranked Michigan Wolverines last Saturday night by a score of 41-14. Alabama didn’t have to really try much in the second-half of the game after building a massive lead over the Wolverines.

USC won its opening game against Hawaii 49-10, but voters gave more stock to Alabama’s thrashing of a highly ranked Michigan team. All total, Alabama received 45 first-place votes to USC’s 11.

The top 10 looked like this after one week of football:

  1. Alabama
  2. USC
  3. LSU
  4. Oregon
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Florida State
  7. Georgia
  8. Arkansas
  9. South Carolina (t)
  10. West Virginia (t)
