Man Murdered Inside His Northwest Miami-Dade Home

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) — A heartbreaking crime took place in northwest Miami-Dade.

A man was killed inside his home, and officers think he may have been murdered for his jewelry and television.

"There wasn't a reason to kill him," said Dionisia Ocasio.

Ocasio doesn't understand why anyone would want to hurt her brother, 53-year-old Rafael Esquivel-Navas. She describes him as an honest, very hard working man.

Investigators say one of the victim's colleagues called them when he failed to show up for work.

Officers then stopped by his home Tuesday afternoon to check on him.

"When the police entered, they found my brother dead!" cried Ocasio.

Investigators believe Esquivel-Navas was hit with something and then stabbed to death.

Robbery is believed to be the motive. Ocasio thinks more than one person is responsible.

"I don't know why when they took his things they had to kill him. He didn't have one enemy, never!" said Ocasio.

Ocasio now hopes justice will come quickly for her brother.

Despite evidence left behind at the crime scene, police do not yet have any suspects. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
