Search Resumes For Body Of Man In Medley Silo

MEDLEY (CBSMiami) — The recovery mission continued Tuesday for the body of a 58-year-old worker who fell to his death in a cement silo roof collapse eleven days ago.

Pierre Mezidor, 58, of North Miami, fell into the silo filled with tightly-packed cement powder on Friday, August 17th.

Mezidor fell when the metal roof of the silo at Titan America collapsed under him as he measured the level of the dry cement powder. Mezidor dropped at least 140-feet. At first, firefighters rushed to try to rescue Mezidor but it didn't take long to realize he had been swallowed up by the cement.

Wind and rain from Tropical Storm Isaac slowed an already technically challenging operation to find Mezidor's body. The storm dumped rain into the silo that was about 70 percent full of cement powder.

Titan spokeswoman Kate McClain told CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald that the rain-drenched cement powder has made the search more difficult. She said Titan has brought in "outside experts" to conduct the search.
