South Florida Schools Closed Monday

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade County Schools superintendent Alberto Carvalho announced Saturday that all classes have been canceled for Monday, August 27.

Superintendent Carvalho said the schools would need to inspect the schools before students are allowed to return. Carvalho said all schools, activities, and athletic events will be canceled and that regular activities should resume on Tuesday.

In addition, FIU and the University of Miami has canceled classes on Monday as well as the Miami-Dade Archdiocese said all classes in Miami-Dade would be closed. FIU said it will be closed Sunday and Monday and re-open Tuesday.

Miami-Dade's move follows the lead of Monroe County which announced Friday that all classes in the Keys would be canceled for Monday.

And shortly after Miami-Dade made their decision, Broward County Schools announced all classes at their schools would be closed Monday.
