Police Arrest Coconut Grove Rape Suspect

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint behind a Miami elementary school is behind bars.

The woman told police she was sitting on the trunk of a vehicle in the 3300 block of Matilda Street talking to a friend around 5 a.m. when she was approached from behind by 25-year old Gary Arroliga.

The woman said Arroliga was armed with a gun. After demanding their money and valuables, Arroliga ordered the woman's friend to lie on the ground. He then grabbed the woman by the arm and dragged her behind a dumpster Coconut Grove Elementary School where he forced her to perform oral sex on him as held a gun to her head, according to the arrest affidavit.

He then sexually assaulted her.

A Miami Police patrol officer saw a man fitting the description of the suspected rapist and took him into custody. During questioning Arroliga, denied the accusations.

He's been charged with one count of armed sexual battery, two counts of armed robbery, one count of possession of firearm by convicted felon, and one count of false imprisonment.
