Fire Damages Pembroke Pines Home

PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – An early morning fire did substantial damage to a home undergoing renovations in Pembroke Pines.

Just after 2 a.m., the city's 911 operators received multiple calls about smoke and flames coming from a two-story single family home in the 1000 block of NW 159th Avenue. The home is in the Classic Vista development of the Towngate community. Police said some the callers were as far away as Sheridan Street and reported that they could see the flames thirteen blocks south.

When firefighters arrived they found a large amount of fire and smoke in the home's first floor. It took about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire in the four bedroom and three bathroom house.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and it appears that the residence was undergoing some interior renovations. There were no injuries as a result of the fire and the cause is as yet undetermined.

A preliminary damage report estimates repair costs to be at least $70,000.
