MIAMI (CBSMiami) – For the first time in history, a major political party is including support for gay marriage in their party platform. According to POLITICO, the Democratic Party will include the pro-gay marriage language for this year’s party convention.
The language approving the pro-gay marriage platform was unanimously agreed to by a draft committee, but must be approved by the full platform committee in August, POLITICO reported.
Officially, the White House is sending questions about the changes to the Democratic National Committee, which hasn’t revealed the official language used. The move likely received a push in May when President Barack Obama publicly stated that he supported legalization of gay marriage.
The move will further alienate evangelical voters from the Democratic Party, but will likely increase the support the party gets from nearly every liberal organization and many young voters.
