900-Pound Pig Rescued From Pond

SOUTHWEST RANCHES (CBSMiami) – We've all heard about a "pig in a poke" but it was a pig in a pond that caused firefighters a problem.

On Tuesday members of the Pembroke Pines Fire Department and Southwest Ranches Volunteer Fire Department were called to rescue a 900 pound Yorkshire pig which had gotten stuck in a pond behind a home in the 18900 block of Southwest 59th Street in Southwest Ranches.

The owner of the two-and-a-half year old pig named Strawberry said he was getting ready to take her to her new home in Wakulla, in the Florida panhandle, when she slipped into the water.

Neighbors on the scene quickly jumped into the water to help keep Strawberry's head above water as the pet's owner called 911.

Firefighters had to use a ladder and large tarp to pull Strawberry from the five foot deep water.
