Mom, Brother Of Teen Girl Accused Of Whipping Girl With Cord

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The mother and older brother of a South Florida teenager are facing child abuse and neglect charges for allegedly whipping the teenage girl with either an extension cord or cable wire.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Marie Matheiux and her son Duvevrne Andre beat the girl Wednesday when she arrived home past her curfew.

"The girl was lying in bed after coming home late from McDonalds and as a result of her coming home late, she had been warned in the past not to do that, she was awoken by her brother, or mother, we're not sure exactly which, striking her with the cable cord," explained BSO Detective Deanna Garcia.

Detectives said the injuries were so serious, the teen had to be taken to the hospital.

"There were welts throughout her body and a couple of them were actually where the skin was broken and they were bleeding," said detective Garcia.
