Kobe Makes Humorous Claim About Dream Team

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant has never been one to shy away from saying he's the greatest player in the game. But his latest quip is drawing laughter from NBA Hall of Famers and from the sports world in general.

Wednesday, Bryant said that the current US Men's Olympic basketball team could beat the 1992 Dream Team which had the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and others.

Not surprisingly, members of the 1992 team were amused at Bryant's declaration. Jordan told the Associated Press that he "absolutely laughed" when he was told of Bryant's opinion.

Jordan said Bryant comparing the 1992 Dream Team to the current team was "not one of the smartest things he ever could have done."

Charles Barkley, another member of the Dream Team, said it was a "no-brainer" the current team couldn't beat the 1992 team. Barkley added that outside of Kobe, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant he didn't think any other current player could have made the Dream Team.

For reference purposes, the 1992 team had 11 future Hall of Famers and won the six games it played by an average of more than 43 points. While several of those players may not have been at their peak, it was the greatest and smartest group of NBA stars ever put together on one team.
