MIAMI (CBSMiami) – If you’re looking for the best cities in the country for business and careers; you might want to avoid South Florida, according to Forbes magazine.

Forbes released its top 200 best places for business and careers and Miami and Fort Lauderdale were nowhere near the top. Forbes built the list by using job metrics, costs, income growth, quality of life, education of the labor force, and other factors.

According to Forbes, Fort Lauderdale’s overall rating was 192nd out of 200. That’s just three spots ahead of Detroit, Michigan. Forbes dinged Ft. Lauderdale with a cost of business rank of 151st and a job growth rank of 175. Forbes did say Ft. Lauderdale was number 85 in education.

But before people in Miami start bragging, the Magic City finished 181st out of 200 according to Forbes’ list. Miami’s rankings in cost of business were 182nd, job growth was 111th and education was 131st.

Miami was ranked below cities including: Kalamazoo, Michigan; Gary, Indiana; Reno, Nevada; and Fort Smith, Arkansas to name a few.

No city in the Sunshine State made the top 100, though Gainesville did check in at 101 and Tampa-St. Petersburg came in with a ranking of 111. The highest ranked city in South Florida was West Palm Beach at 165th.

The best cities in the country from 1-5 were: Provo, Utah; Raleigh, NC; Fort Collins, CO; Des Moines, IA; and Denver, CO.
