MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A speeding car struck a man on N. Miami Ave. and 79th Street early this morning, launching him 500 feet and killing him.

Miami Police said Carl Jones was treated on the scene then rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital where it was determined he already passed away.

“We know that July 4th is always a bad week. This has pretty much confirmed that July 4th is that week that we have to be aware of,” Detective Louis Taborda of Miami City Police told CBS4′s Silva Harapetian.

A car dealership across the street caught the incident on tape.
