Driver Flagged Down FHP Trooper With 3 People Shot In Car

MIAMI (CBS4) -  The Palmetto Expressway was shut down for nearly two hours Friday night as police investigated a bizarre incident involving a car riddled with bullet holes and three injured victims.

A Miami-Dade Police Department spokesman says the driver of a blue Chevrolet Impala was stopped at the light at Northwest 57 Avenue and 167 Street when he heard gunshots.

Police say the driver also told them three passengers reported being shot. The passenger window of the car was blasted with at least one bullet hole.

Authorities say the driver took off. He drove eastbound on the 826 before pulling up behind a Florida Highway Patrol trooper that was dealing with an unrelated incident at the time.

The police spokesman says the driver then approached the trooper's cruiser and said there were three people with gunshot wounds in the car.

Two males and a female were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Police say they were in stable condition Friday night.

Police have not released any information on a possible suspect.

Traffic was diverted for some time at the 17th Avenue exit. All lanes were open by 11:30 p.m., though some lanes started to move slowly by 11 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
