Attackers Beat Man, Family Begs For Info

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The family of a man brutally beaten and left for dead in Miami is begging for anyone who knows anything about the attack to come forward, so they can get his attackers off the street.

22 year old Rene Betancourt was found by his father last night, bleeding and beaten in his car parked near Jackson Memorial Hospital, He said he's gone looking for his son when he hadn't come home, and he believes Rene had tried to drive himself to the hospital after he was attacked.

Where it happened, and who did the beating, are two questions to which there are currently no answers. but the man's father can't believe what was done to his son.

"He's a human being. He's 22 years old starting his life; nobody deserves this."

According to the family, "this" is a skull fractured in numerous places, a broken nose, a damaged eye, and even a titanium plate in his skull.

"It could happened to anybody's kid, said his sister, Daniela Herdoicia. "anybody's brother anybody's sister. It was very hard for us to come forward but we want to make sure it doesn't happen to any other kids out there."

The family thinks the beating may have happened between third and 4th street in downtown Miami, and thinks Rene may have been attacked by a group.

They have no idea why, they say. His father calls him a college student who had just returned from China after 2 years studying Mandarin. They say his medical prognosis is touch and go.

His sister believes someone must have seen it, and should come forward.

"It happened in a very public place and we need to find these people right away.
