Something Extra: Work, Work, Everywhere

MIAMI (CBS4) - If you're like me, the first thing you do when you wake up is check your email.

And, apparently, an awful lot of you are just like me.

A new poll of American workers shows there is virtually no separation anymore between work and free time.

The numbers are stunning: half of us check our email by 7:09 a.m., two thirds of us before 8.

80% of us continue to work after we leave the office.

The amount of extra work really adds up: an average of 7 extra hours a week... that's about 46 extra work days a year!

Is this depressing you too?

Well, there's more.  A majority of us check work email while on family outings and four in ten do at the dinner table.

The silver lining for me is that getting all that work done outside the office allows me more time to be at home.

On the other hand, that extreme connectivity must be hurting the time we spend with our families.

As in most things, some moderation would probably be best.
