Names Released Of Those Killed In Accident Near Marlins Park

MIAMI (CBSMiami) –  Miami Police have released the names of the victims killed in the crash near Marlins Park Saturday night.

Adriana Maria Diaz, 13, Franklin Abraham Diaz, 14, and Esther Terrero De Diaz, 53, were killed when a red minivan driven by Raul Herberto Ortega Arias, 67, crashed in to them as they walked to their car after a Marlins game.

Magdeline Esther Diaz, 10, is in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The family was visiting Miami from Georgia after an extended trip to the Dominican Republic. One of their relatives, Katherine Del Rosario, couldn't make the trip because she'd just given birth.

"I gained a new member of the family and then lost another," Del Rosario said Monday. "He lost control of the car and basically ran over my family."

Another family member nearby was not hurt, but was so distraught, he had to be rushed to the hospital complaining of chest pains.

"The grandma and my aunt died instantly and my brother had a few vitals when the medical people were there, so they rushed him to the trauma unit, but he didn't make it," Del Rosario said as she cradled her newborn daughter in her arms.

The driver of the minivan didn't make it either. He was transported to the hospital where he died.

"For the family, I'm very sorry, because I don't know what happened," said Rolando Perez Cerezal. Cerezal lives across the street from Arias' family.

Police say Arias experienced a medical episode that may have caused him to lose control of his 2006 red Dodge Caravan.

His neighbors say he had been in poor health lately.

"He was sick," said Lydia Perez. "I heard he was going to the doctor at that moment because he was feeling sick."

It's not known if the medical event or the crash itself killed Arias. The investigation is ongoing.
