DAVIE (CBSMiami/AP) – A Davie woman died South Florida woman died as she tried to escape a smoky fire in her cluttered home.
Early Saturday morning the woman’s neighbors called 911 after they saw smoke pouring from the home.
Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle said the woman, who was in her 60s, was found dead near her door.
Engle estimated the stacks of newspapers and junk lying inside the home were about 3 feet tall. The clutter had to be cleared to make way for police dogs.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
