MIAMI (CBS4) – The Empire State, the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal and Big Ben are among the world’s most famous buildings. Right?
Well, that’s actually not true for Big Ben.
Why? Because Big Ben isn’t really a building. In fact, it isn’t even a clock.
Big Ben is the nickname for the thirteen ton great bell of the famous clock.
The building is officially called the Clock Tower.
But now, the building will be renamed the “Elizabeth Tower” in honor of the Queen’s sixty years on the throne.
The name change has been approved, despite polls showing more Brits oppose it than support it. And others are making a big fuss about the change.
I don’t get it. Until now, nobody called the building the Clock Tower and I suspect nobody will call it the Elizabeth Tower. We’ll all keep calling it Big Ben.
