Bond Set For Suspected Driver In UM Hit & Run

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The man suspected in the hit and run crash which left a critically injured University of Miami student in coma appeared in bond court on Wednesday.

During the proceeding the judge set bond for 24-year old Luis Felipe Moya at $250,000. If Moya posts bail and is released, the judge ordered that he be held on house arrest.

Moya is accused of being behind the silver Mercedes that struck UM student Eliza Gresh, 19, at the intersection of South Dixie Highway and SW 57th Avenue on April 27, 2012.

Police say Moya took the damaged car to the body shop, lied to the mechanic about the accident and requested to file an insurance claim to fix the car. Moya reportedly said that he needed his mother to file the claim, because the insurance for the car was in her name.

Moya's mother was later arrested and charged with insurance fraud.

After the accident Moya fled the state.

On June 5th, he was arrested in an apartment in New York City.
