MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One person was taken into custody early Monday morning after he sideswiped a Miami police officer’s patrol car which led to a police involved shooting and foot chase.

According to police, officers were called to check out reports of a domestic disturbance around 1:30 a.m. in the area of 2181 NW 18th Avenue.

After talking with a woman who said her 19-year-old boyfriend Jesus Gamarra had repeatedly threatened her, his car was spotted by an officer in the area.

When officers tried to pull him over, Gamarra took off, sideswiped an officer’s car and then crashed into an unoccupied parked car. At that point, he jumped out and ran into the neighborhood in the area of 21st Avenue and 28th Street.|

As a result, a foot chase began causing an officer to fire her gun.

“The officer was forced to fire,” said Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes. “We don’t know what prompted the officer to fire.”

It certainly frightened nearby residents.

“I could have been hit by gun fire,” said resident Augustine Rodriguez to CBS4’s Kara Kostanich.

Gamarra was not hit.

Police set up a perimeter and used police dogs to help search the neighborhood.

“I was scared. Police came into my apartment complex and starting searching everywhere,” said one woman who lives on in the neighborhood.

By 6:00 a.m., the suspect was found by a police dog and taken into custody at NW 21st Avenue and 28th Street.

“It appears he was harboring himself in the vicinity. He was actually very close to where the officer came in contact with him,” said Reyes.

The suspect was treated for bites he received from a police dog and taken into police custody.

The officer involved in the shooting was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with minor head injuries she sustained while on the foot chase.
