Miami Police Looking At Alleged Canadian Cannibal

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – As Miami Police continue to try to unravel the details surrounding Rudy Eugene's cannibal attack on Ronald Poppo; they may be preparing to interview another infamous cannibal who was arrested last week.

According to CBC.ca, Miami Police are looking into possible links between a 2009 case of death and dismemberment in South Florida and Luka Rocco Magnotta, who was the subject of an international manhunt after allegedly killing, dismembering, and possibly eating a college student in Montreal, Quebec.

Miami Police are trying to solve the murder and dismemberment case of Osben Laparra from 2009. Laparra was last seen leaving a nightclub on May 31, 2009. In the following days, Laparra's body parts were found floating in different parts of Miami-Dade County waterways.

The CBC reported Magnotta is believed to have spent some time in recent years. But, "it's unclear when-or even if- Magnotta may have been in Miami," according to the CBC.

"I looked up the story – rather interesting," Miami Police Sgt. Confessor Gonzalez told the Canadian Press, via CBC.ca. "If Mr. Rocco was in Miami at the time of my murder, then yeah, I'll definitely be looking at him."

Gonzalez later told CBS4 news partner the link may not be there because the m.o.'s for both attacks were different.

The CBC found several online postings that a person named Luka Magnotta was living in Miami in August 2010. The posts included pictures of a Lotus and the text had boasts that the poster, luka-magnotta, used the car to convince a female police officer to reduce a ticket and that he got frequent sexual attention due to the car.

Magnotta, a low-budget bisexual porn star, is imprisoned in Germany awaiting extradition to Montreal where he will face a multitude of charges including first-degree murder.

Montreal Police said Magnotta dismembered 33-year-old student Jun Lin and then mailed his parts to liberal and conservative leaders in the Canadian government.
