Man Shot & Woman Brutally Beaten In Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man and an elderly woman in Miami were taken to the hospital after the woman was severely beaten and the man was shot.

Miami Police told CBS4 that the woman was with a man in his sixties and the two of them had some sort of argument with two others who came to the house on the 7700 block of NW 4th Avenue around 9 a.m. Thursday.

The crime happened while the two were babysitting two young kids, an infant and a toddler.

"I feel bad, of course, she's a mom you know, she's someone's mother," said a woman who asked to not be identified, but said she was watching over the home. "She's someone's sister. She's someone's family."

The woman said she is puzzled at what could have led to the shooting.

Miami Police believe the dispute was a landlord and tenant dispute.

The woman who said she's in charge of the property said she was unaware of any dispute.

"When I'm questioning the cops, they're not giving me any information of whats going on," the women said.

At least one neighbor is now putting in security cameras, but most said they don't want to get involved with the police in the crime-ridden community.

"We was at work, we just hear one shot. That was it and we went back to work," said Darryl Emilien, a nearby business owner.

When asked why Darryl didn't call the police, Emilien answered, "We hear shots around here all the time, all the time, which is a shame on my part, but it happened."
