Full-Size Shuttle Replica Floats By Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Space Shuttle program has long ended, but if you looked out towards the Atlantic from Miami Friday afternoon, you likely saw the Shuttle passing across the horizon.

The full-size replica of the shuttle, known as Explorer, was being pulled on a barge from Cape Canaveral, Florida to Houston when it passed by Miami Friday. The barge carrying the shuttle replica will make its way around Key West before heading to Houston.

Explorer is expected to arrive in Houston on June 1.

The shuttle replica had been displayed outside of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor's complex for more than a decade, but is now being moved to Houston's Johnson Space Center.

The Kennedy Space Center needed the room because space shuttle Atlantis will go on display at the space center in the summer of 2013.
