Man Struck In Hit & Run Dies From Injuries

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A South Florida man, hospitalized in a coma for more than a week after a hit and run accident, has passed away.

Jon Gouthro, 41, was critically hurt when he was hit near the intersection of Seabreeze Boulevard and Poinsettia close to Las Olas Boulevard in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 29th. He was hospitalized at Broward Health medical Center but died Tuesday, according to Fort Lauderdale Police spokesman Frank Sousa.

Gouthro had watched the Lauderdale Air show Saturday the 28th with friends aboard his Ocean Sportfish boat and had booked a room at the 'W' on Ft. Lauderdale beach.

At approximately 1:30 Sunday morning, while walking from his boat to the "W' hotel, he was hit by a sedan-type vehicle that was southbound on Seabreeze approaching Poinsettia.

Police believe it was a mid-90s Taurus with front end damage.

There is an $11-thousand reward for information that may lead to an arrest.
