Sanford Selects New Interim Police Chief

SANFORD (CBSMiami) – The City of Sanford has tapped the former police chief of Colorado Springs to lead their police force.

City officials said after an extensive search, City City Manager Norton N. Bonaparte, Jr. has made an offer to Richard Myers to be there Interim Police Chief. Myers also served as police chief in Appleton, Wisconsin and in the suburbs of Detroit and Chicago.

For the past month, the department has been led by Captain Darren Scott, who has served as acting chief since Police Chief Bill Lee temporarily stepped aside amid the controversy surrounding the Trayvon Martin Case.

"We thank Captain Scott for his service to the city during these tumultuous times. He has been an exemplary leader," said Bonaparte, Jr. in a statement.

Myers will begin leading the police department at the end of this week.
