Bullets Strafe Home, Hit Miami Teen As She Sleeps

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Bullets riddled a Miami home Saturday morning hitting a 15 year old girl as she lay in the bed next to her little sister.

Emreon Branford has several gun shot wounds on one side of her body: in her arm and even her head after a gunman fired into the house in the 2400 block of NW 55th Terrace just before six o'clock in the morning.

"Got up and my daughter screamed out," recalled David Plunkett, her step-father. "I run in her room switch the lights on she was all in blood all over."

Amazingly her five year old sister Kiara was unscratched as she lay in the same bed and her nine year old brother David was also untouched in a bed nearby.

"I just thank God that you know it wasn't worse," said Plunkett. "You know it could be, thank God its not worse."

Plunkett said he grabbed his machete and ran outside but didn't see anyone. The shots came from the outside of the home but the gunman had vanished when Plunkett began to look around.

"This is senseless," he said. "Whoever did it I would say they made a mistake they must have made a mistake."

Medics rushed Emreon to the Ryder Trauma Center. Her family said she is sedated but expected to be O.K. They said doctors believe she might have a broken jawbone and need surgery to repair it.

Emreon is an eighth grader at Brownsville Middle School.

Miami-Dade police did not return phone calls regarding the investigation.
