Davie Mom Who Snapped Pix Of "Bagged" Baby Arrested

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A Davie mother who snapped what she thought was a funny photo of her baby in a garbage can has been charged with neglect.

Using her cell phone, Courtney McBride, 20, reportedly took a picture of her five month old daughter sitting a plastic lined garbage can with a plastic Publix grocery store bag over her head. She then sent it via a text message to the child's father.

Upset over the photo the child's father, who was out of town, called his sister who lives in Sunrise and asked her to go check on the infant. The woman went to McBride's apartment, in the 3000 block of Palm Trace Landings Drive, but no one was home. She then called police.

Once the police saw the picture, it was determined that the child was in danger.

After alerting the Department of Family Services, Davie police contacted McBride and told her about their investigation. When they showed her the picture they had received, Mcbride "held her head down and began to cry. McBride openly stated that she sent the picture to the infant's father and that it was sent as a 'joke'," according to the arrest report.

McBride reportedly told police she placed the bag over the baby's head and put her in the garbage bin and took the picture quickly with her phone. According to the arrest report, McBride tried to justify her actions by saying she didn't tie the bag and repeatedly told officers "It was a joke."

She was arrested and charged with Child Neglect. The child has been placed with a family member.
