Home Invasion By Fake Cops Leaves Family Terrified

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police are searching for two men they say terrorized a home Friday morning by pretending to be police officers.

According to Miami-Dade Police Department Detective Aida Fina-Milian, the two men forced their way into a home on the 200 block of SW 122nd Avenue around 11:30 a.m. One of the men was wearing a shirt that said "POLICE" on it and flashed a police-type badge.

MDPD said the fake cop was armed with a handgun, though it's not known if the other criminal was as well. Police said inside the home was a mother, her two young children, and a 19-year-old woman confined to a wheelchair.

The fake cops demanded cash and ransacked the house, even knocking a hole in the ceiling to check the attic. The attack left everyone in the home terrorized.

"They held a gun to their heads," a male relative told CBS4's Gary Nelson. "There were children in there."

The fake cops finally left with an undisclosed amount of cash and valuables.

Miami-Dade Police said the robbers were in their fifties and one had white hair while the other had salt and pepper hair. There was no vehicle description as the residents were too scared to look outside.

If you have any information on this crime, call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
