Money Flies Out Of Backpack On I-75 After Bank Robbery

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – Like a scene out of a bad Hollywood comedy, money was flying out of a backpack of a motorcyclist who had just robbed a bank.

Pembroke Pines police confirmed around 11:40 a.m., a Wells Fargo bank branch at 15759 Pines Boulevard was robbed.

According to the FBI, the robber walked into the bank, displayed a gun and then reached over the teller counter and grabbed handfuls of cash.  He stuffed the money into a backpack and ran out.

There were several customers in the bank at the time of the robbery, but no one was hurt.

A Pembroke Pines police officer was injured in a multi-vehicle crash while heading to the bank. The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As police were investigating the robbery, they received reports of a man on a dark colored motorcycle racing south on I-75 with money flying out of it.

Miami-Dade police said their officers found several bills along I-75 around the area of the Miami Gardens Drive exit.

Several individuals were observed picking up the stolen money along the side of the road, according to the FBI.

Police have not said how much money has been recovered.
