Davie Police Chief At Fault In Accident; No Ticket Issued

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – If a person is at fault in a car accident, he or she usually drives away with a ticket; but that wasn't the case with Davie Police Chief Patrick Lynn.

Lynn was driving his unmarked car when he failed to yield to the right of way and hit Frank Connor, 15, who was riding his bicycle Wednesday morning, only yards away from the police station.

He was not issued a ticket, even though a police report states that he was at fault.

Connor was riding his bike to school when Lynn made a right onto Nob Hill Road and hit Connor who was heading south on the crosswalk. Connor was unharmed in the accident.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that Lynn declined to comment, but issued a statement through police spokesman Captain Dale Engle.

"He is just grateful that no one was hurt," Police told the Sun-Sentinel.

Town Administrator Rick Lemack told the Sun Sentinel that Lynn's accident will follow standard protocol and will be reviewed by the police department's accident review board.

The Sun-Sentinel contributed to this report.
