Time Is Running Out For Lobster Hunters

ISLAMORADA (CBSMiami/AP) – Divers have only about two weeks left before they'll have to buying their lobsters at the store.

The lobster harvest season  will end March 31. A two-day recreational mini-season begins July 25.

Eric Billips of Key Dives in Islamorada said water temperatures haven't been as cold as last winter and visibility has been good, but most legal-sized lobsters aren't being found on the main reefs.  He said there are still plenty of 'bugs' out there if you know where to look.

Billips said lobsters tend to be found on solitary coral heads in the sand 40 to 50 feet from the main reefs.

Divers say schools of porkfish, hogfish, silversides and other fish can often lead lobster hunters to those coral heads.
