Soccer Star Collapses On Field

LONDON (CBSMiami) – The soccer world is in shock after a player in the English Premier League collapsed on the field during a match and is now fighting for his life in an English hospital.

According to the Telegraph of London, Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba was standing alone on the field when he collapsed to the ground in the 41st minute of the game.

Team doctors from both squads in the game rushed to Muamba's aid and, according to the Telegraph, spent 10 minutes giving the player CPR on the field. He was eventually carried off on a stretcher wearing an oxygen mask, but was not breathing when he was taken down the tunnel, according to ESPN.

The game was immediately halted by the referees as players from both the Wanderers and the Tottenham Hotspur were visibly shaken on the field. While CPR was being given to Muamba, fans varied between complete silence and chanting Muamba's name.

Witnesses described seeing players in tears and completely distraught after Muamba collapsed and was being tended to by the medical staff.

Across the social networking website Twitter, tweets were pouring in from around the world with the hashtag of #prayformuamba. One of Muamba's teammates, Jermain Defoe, tweeted "Pray for fab god willing he will pull through #prayformuamba.
