Dog Leads Firefighters To Fatally Injured Owner

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – Davie firefighters credit a loyal German shepherd with leading them to an accident scene along State Road 84 where, unfortunately, the dog's owner had died.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Gregory Travers, 41, was on the eastbound SR84 ramp from State Road 7 when he lost control and slammed into a bridge support. Travers, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from his Toyota Camry as it rolled over. He died on the scene.

Arriving firefighters had a difficult time locating the accident scene until they spotted a dog limping on the side of the road, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The dog, Simon, then led them to the scene of the crash where he circled Traver's motionless body twice, then licked him trying to get a response.

As rescue personnel went to check on Travers, Simon jumped in the car and waited.

Simon was taken to Broward County's animal shelter where the following day a woman who identified herself as Traver's wife came and picked him up.
