Hallandale Beach Man Arrested On Child Porn Charges

HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) - A Hallandale Beach man who lived directly across the street from a park is facing 250 counts of child pornography.

Detectives said they found the photos of children in unspeakable positions when they arrested Kenwood Deveaux Saturday morning. The 26 year old had little to say in court later in the day. The judge set bond at more than a million dollars.

Even if Deveaux was able to post that money, he wouldn't get out jail. That's because he's also being held on an immigrant hold. Detectives said Deveaux is here illegally from the Bahamas.

Investigators said he lived with his mother in a small house across the street from a park filled with children. Shameka Lang was incensed to learn the news. She was at the park with her four nieces and nephews Saturday.

"He should be given a stern hand with the law I mean that's sad you know," said Lang. "Children come to this park everyday. They play baseball here. They play basketball here. So to know someone that close in proximity to where children are supposed to feel comfort and safe, he should definitely be given the firmest hand of the law."

Next door neighbor Daniel Mendez was also upset to learn that the young man who lived next door was accused of child porn.

"You never know who you're living next door to you know it's a shame," said Mendez. "I have a 13 year old living with us. You know it's terrible, it really is."

When CBS 4 News went to knock on the door at Deveaux's home several adults ran into the home and slammed the door. No one wanted to talk about the charges against Deveaux.
