Man Shot By Sheriff's Deputy In Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – An investigation is underway after a Broward Sheriff's deputy was involved in a shooting in a Pompano Beach neighborhood.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said just after noon a deputy in the area noticed 'suspicious vehicle'. When the deputy approached it, Concepcion said the driver accelerated in the direction of the officer. Fearing for his life the deputy fired at the driver.

Concepcion said the injured driver made it to the 400 block of NE 29th Street where he got out of the SUV and indicated he had been shot.

The injured driver, who reportedly was shot in the chest, was taken to North Broward Medical Center.

The sheriff's office has not released the wounded person's or deputy's name.
