Brevard Deputy Formerly With Miami-Dade Police Shot On Duty

MELBOURNE (CBSMiami) - A Brevard County sheriff's deputy who once worked for the Miami-Dade police department was shot and killed Tuesday when she attempted to investigate a report of a theft. 2 people were questioned in the shooting.

Barbara Pill, a 52-year-old grandmother whose sons also found careers in law enforcement, was killed after she stopped a car which had been implicated in the theft of furniture at an Econolodge motel.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Pill called for backup as she stopped the car, but before other officers arrived, Brandon Lee Bradley, 22, and Andria Michelle Kerchner, 19, allegedly shot Pill and sped off, leaving her in the road.

They were arrested after a brief police chase.

Pill had 10 years in service at the Brevard Sheriff's Office, and had worked for years as an employee of the Miami-Dade police Department.

Pill's death is the first law enforcement death in Brevard County since 1996.
