CORAL GABLES (AP) – Kenny Kadji and Durand Scott scored 14 points each to lead Miami past Boston College 77-56 on Saturday.
The Hurricanes broke open a close game with a 16-1 run during a 6:13 stretch midway through the first half. Malcolm Grant keyed Miami’s surge with consecutive 3-pointers. Scott’s 3-pointer with 4:55 remaining capped the run and gave Miami a 36-19 lead.
Grant finished with 12 points for the Hurricanes (18-11, 9-7 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Dennis Clifford’s basket with 3:20 remaining in the first half ended a field-goal scoring drought of 8:08 for Boston College.
Matt Humphrey scored 16 points for Boston College (9-21, 4-12). After winning two of their first three conference games, the Eagles lost 11 of their final 13.
Miami, which began Saturday tied for fourth place in the ACC, needs to await the results of Sunday’s games to determine if it will receive a first-round bye in the conference tournament which starts next Thursday. The Hurricanes began Saturday tied with Virginia, North Carolina State and Clemson.
The Cavaliers close their conference regular-season schedule at Maryland on Sunday. The Wolfpack visit Virginia Tech and the Tigers play at FloridaState also on Sunday.
Scott’s 26-foot running 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Hurricanes a 46-25 lead at halftime.
