Miami Jackson High Gets "A" Grade From State

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The transformation of Miami Jackson Senior High is complete.

Two years ago, the school which serves mostly inner city youth, received an "F" rating by the state. The following year they showed some improvement and moved their score to a "D".

In 2011, after numerous program changes, the school received a "B" grade from the state, but that wasn't good enough for district school officials who appealed the ruling.

And they won.

In conducting their review, the Department of Education's appeals committee and leadership recalculated the school's grade after including dual enrollment courses that were reported by the district, but were not originally counted in the accelerated participation and performance measures for the school.

By verifying that dual enrollment courses at non-public postsecondary institutions should be counted for high school grades and that they should have been counted in the calculation of this school's 2011 school grade, the appeals panel changed the school's final grade from a "B" to an "A".

Another school which also serves inner city students, Miami Southridge Senior High in South Miami Heights, also received an "A" grade.
