Man Stabbed Near Weston School

WESTON (CBSMiami) – One person was airlifted to the hospital after being stabbed in the chest on a Weston basketball course.

Initial reports indicated it occurred on a court at the Sagemont Prepartory School, located at 1570 Sagemont Way.  The Broward Sheriff's Office said it actually happened on a street in front of a basketball court located in the San Michele townhouse community which is across the street from the school.

Neighbors said the basketball court is usually busy on the weekends with players of all ages.  Some neighbors said they were shocked at what had happened, others pointed out it was an isolated incident.

"They're here at all times of the day, during the day, during the night, the kids are playing basketball, they ride their bikes here.  I feel pretty safe leaving the kids here," said Adelaida Simpson who lives in the community.

Sheriff's department spokesman Mike Jachles confirmed that an adult male was airlifted to Broward General Medical Center with stab wounds but did not know the extent of the injuries.

Jachles did not release the person's name or say what led to the stabbing.
