NY Man To Try Atlantic Crossing In A Rowboat, Again

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) – Big news coming out of the Miami International Boat Show on Miami Beach.

Victor Mooney has announced that he will again attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a rowboat.

Mooney said he plans to set off in a new rowboat December 1st from the Canary Islands off Africa. His plans for his 5,000-mile journey back to New York include stops in the British Virgin Islands and Miami.

This will be his fourth attempt. In his first three attempts the Queens, New Yorker had to be rescued.

Last March, Mooney spent two weeks adrift in a life raft before being rescued about 250 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. He also needed rescues in 2006 and 2009.

Mooney says he's pursued his unlikely quest to promote HIV testing.
