Cheep Eats: PL8 Kitchen And Side Bar

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Imagine a pizza with quail eggs and maple syrup along with peppers and onions.

If that's your idea of fine dining, then the PL8 Kitchen and Side Bar might be the perfect cheap eat.

For those who enjoy tasting, sharing and sampling eclectic dishes PL8 Kitchen and Side Bar is a must try.

PL8 is located in downtown Fort Lauderdale and is gaining popularity.

"We noticed a lot of people coming in and sharing plates whether it was appetizers or entrees and they would very often be sharing entrees," said Executive Chef Joel Christy. "We decided to go in the movement of small plates, tapas style, but not tapas. It's fun food and very sharable."

Chef Joel prepares one of PL8's specialty pizzas, The Sunny Side Up.

"It's smoked gouda, mozzarella, maple syrup, quail eggs, potatoes,  peppers, and onions," said Christy. "No marinara".

If money's tight, PL8 might have just what the doctor ordered. Plates range from four dollars to 12 dollars.

"[The pricing] really allows our guest to come in and get a lot of different things together and have fun," Christy said.

One of PL8's most popular plates includes: the bratwurst sliders served on a pretzel bun and topped with potato salad and the Korean short ribs with a side of pineapple kimchee.

The low key atmosphere is friendly and cool, accented by a giant floor to ceiling tree made from clothes pins.

Fridays are Happy Hour at PL8 where select appetizers go for three dollars and you can hang out at the side bar which is connected to the kitchen all night.

PL8 Kitchen and Side Bar is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
