Blaze Blackens Deerfield Beach Warehouse

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) - A number of Deerfield Beach warehouse buildings were evacuated Friday afternoon after one of the warehouses caught fire, heavily damaging the interior and the roof.

The warehouse, located in the 800 block of NE 41st street, was full of heavy smoke when firefighters from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived shortly after noon.

The roof was badly damaged by the flames, and BSO Fire Rescue spokesperson Mike Jachles said firefighters, worried about a possible collapse, fought the blaze in a defensive mode.

Chopper 4 showed firefighters using hoses and ladder trucks playing water on the roof, working to put out the flames.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, and no information about the possible cause of the fire.

The damage was limited to a single warehouse building, although people in nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution.
