FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A driver of a tanker trucker is recovering after he lost control and slammed into a light pole and a transformer at Port Everglades on Sunday.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said truck driver had some sort of medical problem near the entrance to the port’s Checkpoint #2 when he lost control and hit the pole.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue paramedics were able to stabilize the driver who was taken to Broward General Medical Center.

BSO said there was no gas in the tanker at the time of the crash.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area until clean up was complete.
