FHP Trooper Injured In Turnpike Accident

W MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured when his patrol car was involved in a three vehicle accident on the Florida Turnpike Extension.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes between SR 836 and NW 41st Street.

Chopper4 over the scene spotted the trooper wearing a neck brace lying on a backboard with paramedics attending to him. A second person, on a gurney, was placed into a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue vehicle.

The accident scene forced the closure of three lanes, which snarled traffic for miles.  Traffic was detoured onto the shoulder to get by.

The FHP has not released the name of the injured trooper or what caused the accident.
