Police Nab Gold Buyers Robbery Suspects

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A pair of would be robbers found themselves on the wrong side of a gun when they tried to hold up the co-owner of a Gold Buyers store in Ft. Lauderdale.

Oleg Flyaster said he was in the alley behind the store, located at 5130 N Federal Highway, closing up for the day when he was approached by two men wearing ski masks; one had a gun. Ft. Lauderdale police would later identify the men as 22-year old Carlton Lowe and 23-year old Marvin Broadway.

When they demanded his money, Flyaster said he reached behind him as if to go for his wallet but instead pulled out his own gun and started shooting. Both of the masked men ran off,  but Flyaster was able to wound one of them.

Witnesses told arriving officers that the two men dumped their masks and the gun as they fled.

Police quickly located Broadway who had a bullet wound in his shoulder. He was taken to Broward General Medical Center where he was treated.

A short time later, police spotted Lowe as a passenger in a getaway vehicle that was trying to leave the perimeter. The vehicle was driven by a third suspect, Taylor Miller, 19, of Hollywood.

Police said detectives were able to confirm that all three suspects were involved in the attempted armed robbery of Flyaster.

Broadway has been charged with robbery and wearing a mask while committing a felony. Lowe and Miller have been charged with armed robbery.
