DEA: Florida No Longer Pill Mill Capital

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - After being known as the nation's "Pill Mill Capital," Florida's top drug enforcement agents say that is no longer the case.

DEA agents announced Monday that tougher laws and more arrests have led to a significant decrease in the amount of oxycodone being prescribed illegally throughout the state.

In 2010, the agency's Automation of Reports and Consolidated Orders System (ARCOS) reported that 90 of the top 100 physicians who bought and prescribed oxycodone were in Florida.

Now the DEA says that number has dropped to 13.
