Pompano Beach Man Charged With Killing His Mother

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Pompano Beach man is behind bars after he reportedly beat his mother to death in her apartment and then tried to hide the body.

Broward Sheriff's investigators believe 30-year-old Danny Martin killed Heidi Mittica some time Tuesday evening inside a third floor unit of the sprawling Sea Monarch condo facing the beach just off A1A, north of Atlantic Boulevard.

When she didn't show up for work Wednesday, her employer became concerned and sent someone to check on her. They found the 48-year- old's body wrapped in a blanket after 4 p.m.

"When detectives went out they found her body wrapped in a blanket and was evident someone tried to clean up the crime scene," Dani Moschella with BSO said.

It didn't take long for detectives to figure out their prime suspect was her son, Martin, who had been living with her in the apartment. Martin has an extensive criminal history.

With the help of the Boca Raton Police Department, detectives found him just after midnight on Thursday hiding in his mother's car which was parked on Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton.

Martin had cuts on his face and hands, and his hands were bruised – injuries he apparently sustained as he beat his mother.

Mittica was a marketing executive who worked in Boca Raton.

Martin, who was charged with first-degree murder, is being held at BSO's Main Jail.
