Poll: Americans View On Economy Improving

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – As Republicans battle it out in Florida for the right to face President Barack Obama in the fall; the president may be getting some news that could boost his re-election chances.

According to a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, President Obama has jumped into positive numbers in his approval rate with 48 percent giving the president a thumbs up on his job performance, and 46 percent disapproving of Obama.

The shift was the first time since last June that Obama had positive job approval numbers. In addition, while Obama was still underwater for his handling of the economy, he did post gains of roughly 6 percent for his economy.

On the flip side, the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll gave failing numbers to Congress again. According to the poll, Congress has an 80 percent disapproval rate, compared to just a 13 percent approval rate.

The 13 percent approval rate was tied for the lowest mark since January 1994.

As for the overall view of the economy, 37 percent said the economy will get better this year, which was the highest number since May 2010.

Just 17 percent said the economy will get worse, and a plurality of 44 percent said the economy will stay the same.
