Man Pulled From Medley Canal Had Been Shot
MEDLEY (CBSMiami) – Medley police are hoping a man suffering from a gunshot wound, who was found near a canal, will be able to tell them what happened to him after he recovers in the hospital.
Police spokesman Lt. Jack Young said the man, later identified by family members as 39-year-old Frank Granda, was found around 1 a.m. by an officer on patrol in the 9600 block of NW 106th Street, east of the Florida Turnpike.
The officer said he spotted a champagne-colored Chevy pick up that was against a guard rail, the engine was running and one of its doors was open. When he went to check it out, he found Granda lying on the bank of a canal with his legs dangling in the water.
The officer said he then noticed that Granda had a bullet wound in his chest.
Granda, married and the father of a 1-year-old daughter, is a truck driver and car carrier, CBS4's Gary Nelson reported. He was on his way to pick up his rig when for reasons unknown, he pulled over and someone shot him point blank in the chest, Nelson reported.
"My brother is a hardworking man, a family man," Granda's brother Manuel Granda said. "He was on his way to work, you know, he has a car transport company…we don't know what happened."
Granda was air rescued to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he's listed in critical condition on a respirator.
Police have no motive or suspects but are investigating.
